Multi-agency crackdown

H-FAST has been carrying out joint inspections and raids with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Food Safety Department and Veterinary Department as reported by NDTV.

The joint operations have been aimed at food manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail outlets and distribution networks that are believed to be involved in the violation of food safety norms.

Sweeping seizures throughout the city

The operation has resulted in the seizure of almost 122 tonnes of food products found to be unsafe and adulterated, highlighting the extent of the issue in the food supply chain in Hyderabad, officials said.

Authorities have also arrested 185 people or companies for allegedly manufacturing, storing or selling inferior food products.

The enforcement drive is targeted at providing safe and hygienic food to consumers and at preventing those involved in food adulteration and other violations of food laws.

Authorities threaten more action

According to NDTV, the surveillance and enforcement will be ongoing and regular checks and surprise raids will be made in Hyderabad. Authorities have called on food business operators to comply seriously with food safety standards and licensing requirements so that in any cases of contravention, they will face a strong legal action.

The crackdown follows several recent operations in Hyderabad which had led to the identification of sale of fake and mislabelled food products, raising concerns over food adulteration.

They are confident that continued enforcement will increase compliance and boost public confidence in the city’s food supply.

Consumers have also been advised to buy food items from licensed vendors, pay attention to product labels and expiry dates and complain to the concerned authorities in case of suspected cases of food adulteration.

H-FAST’s first 100 days have proven the need for a coordinated effort to safeguard public health and deliver safe food to consumers.
