A viral video showing a young boy narrowly escaping a serious fall during a paragliding takeoff has reignited concerns about safety standards in India’s adventure tourism industry. Shared on X, the clip has prompted widespread discussion online, with many users questioning whether enough regulations are in place to ensure the safety of participants.
The incident, reportedly filmed in a mountainous region that appeared to be in Nainital, showed a failed takeoff attempt that could have ended in tragedy.
Boy survives after failed paragliding takeoff
The video captured a young boy preparing for a paragliding flight as several operators assisted with the launch from a hillside. However, the takeoff failed twice because of the wind conditions, causing the boy to tumble towards a bush-covered slope.
A woman who recorded the incident explained what she witnessed.

“Mere saamne se ek ladka jaa raha tha aur ye bhai do baar gira neeche, ekdam pahad se neeche (A guy was going right in front of us to paraglide, and this guy literally fell twice straight down the mountain),” she said.
She added that nearby bushes and the paraglider likely prevented a much more serious accident.
Video fuels debate over adventure sports safety
The clip was shared with a caption criticising the lack of regulation in India’s adventure tourism sector.
“Never ever do adventure activities in India. This is one of the most unregulated sectors where almost anyone can start an adventure sports business and it goes completely unmonitored. Just look at this video. The weather, the takeoff point, everything made it obvious what the outcome was going to be, yet they still went ahead. People really don’t care until something goes horribly wrong.”

The post quickly went viral, with many social media users expressing concern over safety practices followed by some adventure sports operators.
Internet questions safety standards
Reacting to the video, one user wrote, “This is what I have voiced openly. These are unregulated sectors where making money is the prime criterion. Everything and anything goes as long as there is no incident. There are no safety rules, no checks and balances. It’s an open field. Anyone comes with some bare essentials of gliding and starts off as an expert. I had a firsthand unsavoury experience, after which I decided this was it.”
Questioning the launch site, another person asked, “How is this even considered a suitable paragliding launch site? I can understand an experienced solo pilot using such a terrain, but how do you expect an inexperienced passenger to run downhill over such an uneven, vegetation-covered slope before takeoff?”
