The Delhi-bound aircraft was already accelerating on the runway when controllers noticed an arriving Air India Express flight had not fully vacated the landing strip. According to News 18, the incident occurred around 10 pm on July 7 when Air India flight AI816, scheduled to fly from Mumbai to Delhi, was preparing for departure. At the same time, Air India Express flight AIX1547 had just landed from Siliguri and was still occupying the active runway.
According to airline officials, Air Traffic Control immediately instructed the Air India crew to discontinue the take-off roll. The pilots complied with the instruction and safely returned the aircraft to the bay without any injuries or damage.

According to News 18, following the aborted take-off, the Boeing 777-300ER operating AI816 was withdrawn for mandatory technical inspections in line with standard operating procedures. Air India confirmed that passenger safety remained its highest priority and said alternate arrangements were being made to ensure travellers reached Delhi with minimal delay.
The airline also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, adding that safety protocols always take precedence over operational schedules.
Meanwhile, the Air India Express Boeing 737 MAX 8 completed its landing without any reported issues.
