After emerging as one of the biggest box office successes of the year, Project Hail Mary is now heading to streaming. The science-fiction adventure starring Ryan Gosling will begin streaming globally on Prime Video from July 3.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film is based on Andy Weir’s novel and adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard. The project was produced by Amy Pascal, Ryan Gosling, Lord, Miller, Weir, Rachel O’Connor and Aditya Sood.

Prime Video announced on Wednesday that Project Hail Mary will be available to viewers worldwide starting July 3.

The film follows Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up alone on a spacecraft far away from Earth without any memory of his identity or mission.
The official synopsis reads, “Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light-years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out.
He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.”
Strong box office performance
Released on March 20, the film performed strongly at the global box office, collecting more than $683 million worldwide.
The movie received praise for its visual effects, large-screen presentation and the character design of Rocky, the alien companion who plays a key role in the story. Many viewers described the IMAX experience as “unparalleled”.

“He is not traditionally cute. He doesn’t have big eyes. In fact, he doesn’t have any eyes or a face. So at first glance, he looks like a bunch of rocks or a spider, which traditionally wouldn’t be cute. But the way he moves and the performance by James Ortiz make you fall in love with him.”
“There were many factors, starting with the design we did with Neil Scanlon and the creature shop team, to making a character with no face feel interesting and appealing.”
