After two days of widespread rainfall triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, the weather is set to change across West Bengal. While South Bengal, including Kolkata, is likely to get some relief from continuous showers over the next few days, North Bengal is bracing for another spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall activity will remain subdued in South Bengal until Thursday. However, humid conditions are expected to make the weather uncomfortable. In contrast, rain is expected to intensify across North Bengal, with heavy rain alerts issued for several districts later this week.

Rainfall to reduce across South Bengal

The IMD said the low-pressure system that developed over the Bay of Bengal has moved inland from Odisha through Jharkhand towards Chhattisgarh. At the same time, the monsoon trough has shifted to the north of Murshidabad.

As a result, South Bengal is likely to see a noticeable drop in rainfall intensity till Thursday. Although showers will continue at a few places, they are expected to be lighter than those witnessed over the past two days. With moisture levels remaining high in the atmosphere, humidity is likely to increase, making outdoor conditions more uncomfortable.

The weather department has also indicated that rainfall activity may pick up again from Friday. During the weekend, several districts in South Bengal could witness stronger spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds.
