According to the IMD, Kolkata is expected to remain mostly cloudy throughout Sunday. The city may receive light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms during the day. Weather officials have also indicated that rainfall activity is likely to become more widespread from Monday.

The minimum temperature in Kolkata on Sunday was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature is expected to touch 32.1 degrees Celsius, around 0.7 degrees below normal.

Heavy rain alert for several South Bengal districts

Rain has been forecast across all districts of South Bengal on Sunday. The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Purba Bardhaman, Nadia and Bankura, where intense showers are expected.

Apart from these districts, Birbhum, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Howrah and several neighbouring areas may also experience scattered rain and thunderstorms. Gusty winds could accompany the showers in many places.

The weather office has further indicated that rainfall is expected to increase across several parts of South Bengal from the beginning of next week.

Orange alert in North Bengal as very heavy rain expected

North Bengal is likely to continue receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD has issued an Orange alert for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, warning of the possibility of very heavy rain.
