India is poised to usher in a new chapter in commercial spaceflight with the launch of Mission Aagaman by Skyroot, the nation’s inaugural privately built orbital rocket mission, taking place soon from Hyderabad, India.
The maiden test flight of the Vikram-1 launch vehicle is slated to take place within the launch window of July 12 to August 4, contingent upon weather, safety and final technical clearance.

Vikram-1 constructed before its launch
The Vikram-1 rocket has now been fully assembled and stacked at Satish Dhawan Space Centre’s historic First Launch Pad located in Sriharikota, according to Skyroot Aerospace.
The rocket will launch its payload to a Low Earth Orbit of 450 km at an inclination of 60 degrees which is India’s first attempt by a private orbital launch vehicle, according to NDTV.
Why is Mission Aagaman important?
The successful launch will be a milestone in the development of India’s thriving private space sector. It would prove that Indian private firms could design and fly their orbital-class rockets on their own to open up avenues in the global small satellite launch market.
Based on Skyroot’s successful Vikram-S suborbital mission in 2022, the first private Indian rocket launched into space, Mission Aagaman follows this trip. The new mission is the company’s next big step in commercial orbital launches.
ISRO and IN-SPACe providing support
Skyroot said it has received support from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and IN-SPACe, the space promotion body in the country, to work on its projects.
The mission is indicative of the reforms in the Indian space sector, which has empowered private industry to build high-performing launch vehicles and facilities in addition to the government ones.
Looking ahead
The main goal of the mission Aagaman is to test the performance of Vikram-1 in actual flight conditions and gather in-flight data.
The success of the mission would open the door to more possible commercial launches by private Indian companies and India’s bid to enter the space economy game as a big player.
