With the ongoing monsoon rainfall in the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a landslide and mudslide warning to several districts, including Shimla, in the state.
The weather department has suggested that residents and the public should take precautions, particularly in areas considered to be at risk of landslides due to unstable slopes.

Next week expected to be rainy
The IMD forecast heavy rainfall in various parts of the state for the next five to seven days in Himachal Pradesh, according to Hindustan Times.
The warning is for Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, Mandi, Sirmaur, Lahaul-Spiti where the risk of landslides, mudslides and rising water levels is high due to saturated soil conditions.
The weather agency has warned that heavy rains could result in roads being blocked, disruption to transport, damage to infrastructure and temporary loss of services.
Local governments were requested to continue to be prepared to respond in case of need. However, tourists have been advised to remain vigilant.
The monsoon season has brought tourists to Himachal Pradesh and the authorities have issued warnings that tourists should refrain from traveling to areas prone to landslides, especially during heavy rains.
Travelers have been urged to keep an eye on the official weather announcements before making travel plans and heed the warnings from local authorities.
Water levels are expected to rise quickly in rivers and streams which may cause flash flooding in low-lying areas, officials said. Living close to the fragile slopes have also been asked to monitor for any ground movement or cracks and report any to local government.
For what reason has the warning been issued?
The IMD added that the ongoing monsoon rains have raised the risk of slippages in multiple hilly districts. Heavy rain can weaken hill slopes by saturating soil making landslides and mud slides likely, especially in areas where there has been heavy rainfall during the last few days.
The department is anticipating rainy conditions and is keeping a tight watch on all the vulnerable areas.
