Bentley has officially revealed the name of its first fully electric production model, the Bentley Torcal, with the luxury British carmaker confirming that the SUV will make its global debut on September 23. The announcement marks a major milestone for Bentley as it prepares to enter the premium electric vehicle segment while reshaping its long-term electrification strategy. The Bentley Torcal will become the fourth model line in the company’s portfolio and its first battery-powered vehicle.

Bentley Torcal marks a new era for the luxury brand

The Bentley Torcal derives its name from El Torcal de Antequera, a renowned natural reserve in Andalusia, Spain, famous for its dramatic limestone formations. Bentley says the name also references the Latin word “torquere”, from which the modern automotive term “torque” originates, highlighting the strong performance expected from its first EV.

Alongside the announcement, Bentley released the first teaser image of the Bentley Torcal. While only the rear section of the vehicle has been shown, the image clearly indicates an SUV silhouette. Slim LED tail lamps featuring Bentley’s signature diamond-inspired lighting pattern and a black Bentley badge hint at a modern interpretation of the brand’s traditional luxury styling.

More details about the vehicle are expected to be revealed in the lead-up to its September unveiling.

Bentley Torcal expected to feature advanced EV technology

Although Bentley has not confirmed technical specifications, prototype sightings suggest the Bentley Torcal will be positioned below the Bentayga in size.

Industry reports indicate that the SUV could share its platform with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric. If that proves accurate, the Bentley Torcal is expected to feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup and an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture capable of supporting ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 400 kW.

The new platform is also expected to deliver improved performance, longer driving range and enhanced efficiency while maintaining Bentley’s focus on refinement and luxury.

Bentley revises its electrification roadmap

The Bentley Torcal was originally expected to arrive earlier but was delayed as demand for high-end electric vehicles softened globally.

Bentley has also updated its electrification plans. The company has dropped its earlier target of becoming an all-electric manufacturer by 2030. Instead, it now plans to introduce either a new plug-in hybrid or fully electric model every year until 2035, allowing greater flexibility as customer demand evolves.

The Bentley Torcal is therefore expected to serve as the foundation for Bentley’s next generation of luxury electric vehicles while helping the company balance electrification with continued demand for hybrid technology.
