A bomb threat targeting Delhi’s iconic Red Fort triggered a high-alert security response on Tuesday after Mumbai Police received an anonymous phone call claiming that the historic monument would be blown up. The alert prompted swift coordination between law enforcement agencies in Mumbai and Delhi, leading to an extensive anti-sabotage operation at one of the country’s most heavily guarded heritage sites.
Authorities later confirmed that the threat was a hoax after a thorough search of the premises found no suspicious object or explosive material.
Threat call prompts immediate action
According to officials, the threat call was received at the Mumbai Police Control Room, following which the information was immediately relayed to the Delhi Police and other central security agencies responsible for the protection of the Red Fort.
Considering the monument’s national significance and the large number of visitors it attracts daily, authorities activated standard emergency security protocols without delay.
Massive security sweep at Red Fort

Officials said every section of the monument was carefully examined to ensure there was no security risk.
Threat declared a hoax
After several hours of inspection, authorities confirmed that nothing suspicious had been found during the search operation. The bomb threat was subsequently declared a hoax.
Police officials reiterated that every threat, regardless of its credibility, is treated as genuine until proven otherwise, especially when it concerns a nationally important monument such as the Red Fort.
Probe launched to identify the caller
Mumbai Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the individual behind the anonymous threat call. Investigators are analysing the phone number, call records and other technical evidence to determine the caller’s identity and location.

Delhi Police are also coordinating with Mumbai Police as part of the investigation. Legal action is expected against those responsible once they are identified, as making false bomb threats is a punishable offence under Indian law.
Security remains on high alert
The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the venue of the Prime Minister’s Independence Day address every year, remains under constant security surveillance due to its historical and strategic importance.
Officials said security agencies will continue to remain vigilant and respond swiftly to every threat, even if it ultimately proves to be a false alarm, to ensure public safety and prevent any potential security breach.
