Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly received an online death threat ahead of his scheduled visit to Melbourne, Australia. According to The Australia Today, the alleged threat surfaced on social media in response to a post promoting a community event planned during the Prime Minister’s visit.
The reported incident has prompted an investigation by Australian authorities, with officials examining the origin of the message and whether any criminal laws have been violated.
Online threat linked to Melbourne community event
As per The Australia Today report, the threatening message appeared under a Facebook post announcing the “Melbourne Meets Modi” event, which is scheduled to take place at Marvel Stadium on July 9.

The comment was allegedly posted from an account using the name “ابو مصطفى” (Abu Mustafa). The message read, “the roof tops of the stadium better close during the event or he will be coming to Australia for his death.”

Australian police begin investigation
The report said that investigators have traced the IP address linked to the social media account as part of their inquiry. Authorities are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the post and assessing whether any criminal offences have been committed.
Quoting an Australian Federal Police spokesperson, The Australia Today reported, “No arrests had been made” at the time the report was published.
The publication further stated that the matter has been brought to the attention of agencies responsible for security arrangements related to the Prime Minister’s visit.

PM Modi’s Australia visit
The reported threat comes just days before PM Modi’s official visit to Australia. During the trip, he is expected to hold bilateral engagements and attend community programmes, including the Melbourne event at Marvel Stadium.
According to the report, Australian law enforcement agencies treat threats against visiting heads of government with utmost seriousness. Security for high-profile international visits is generally coordinated by multiple agencies, including the Australian Federal Police, state police forces and specialist protective security units.
