Employees who have changed jobs multiple times or lost track of an old provident fund account now have a new way to access their employment records.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a Service History feature as part of its upgraded EPFO 2.01 portal. The new tool allows members to view their complete employment history linked to their Universal Account Number (UAN), including previous and current employers, joining and exit dates, and EPF and Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) membership details.

The rollout follows EPFO’s migration to a unified national database, enabling service requests to be processed from any authorised office across the country instead of being restricted to regional offices, according to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

How does the Service History feature help?

Service History is a facility meant to provide members with a combined and verified employment history and provident fund contribution history.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment says that the feature allows users to validate career history, spot any gaps or inaccuracies in service history, and enable claims settlement, pension eligibility validation and onboarding with a new employer.

Another improvement made by the revamped online platform is that it automatically transfers PF to an Aadhaar linked UAN without the need to file individual transfer application each time a member changes employers.

How to Access EPFO Service History?

Members can access the feature by:

Log in to the EPFO Unified Portal using their UAN and password.
Complete OTP verification using their registered phone number.
Access the Service History tab to review/download employment records.

The downloaded document can be used for verifying past employment and any discrepancies in it for making future claims or applying for pensions.

What if you’ve lost an old PF account?

EPFO also launched the E-PRAAPTI platform in April 2026 to help members locate inactive or forgotten EPF accounts.

The Aadhaar-enabled portal allows subscribers to search for old accounts, reactivate them and link them with their existing UAN. According to Rishi Agrawal, CEO and Co-founder of TeamLease RegTech, the initiative is part of EPFO’s broader digital transformation aimed at reducing paperwork, strengthening identity verification and improving member access to PF-related services.

Why do PF accounts become inactive?

PF accounts usually get inactive once the employees exit a particular job without transferring or withdrawing the accumulated amount.

This usually occurs post change in employment, career gap, or loss of information about the old PF accounts.

Nevertheless, the present EPFO guidelines state that eligible inactive EPF accounts earn interest until the individual turns 58 years old.

Members need to update their UAN-related information frequently, transfer their accounts post-change in employment, and update KYC details in order to avoid issues in the future while making claims.
