Heavy monsoon showers and poor visibility disrupted flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Saturday, forcing several aircraft to alter their landing plans.
According to airport sources, five Mumbai-bound flights were diverted to nearby airports after adverse weather conditions made it unsafe to land. In addition, pilots of 17 other flights carried out aborted landings before eventually completing their journeys safely.
Five Mumbai-bound flights diverted due to poor visibility
The diverted flights included three operated by IndiGo and two by Air India. Airport officials said the combination of heavy rainfall and reduced visibility resulted in unstable landing approaches, prompting pilots to divert the aircraft instead of attempting to land in Mumbai.

Heavy rain impacts transport across Mumbai
The disruption to flight operations came as Mumbai witnessed intense monsoon rainfall through the day. Several parts of the city received nearly 200 mm of rain within a 12-hour period, creating widespread disruption to daily life.
Waterlogging was reported from multiple low-lying areas, while road cave-ins, uprooted trees and house collapses were also reported in some localities. Traffic moved slowly across several parts of the city as flooded roads affected vehicular movement.
