Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s India debut was a historic moment as he became the country’s youngest-ever international cricketer. However, the 15-year-old also entered the record books for an unwanted reason after being stumped during his maiden T20I innings against England.
Bright start ends in disappointment
Opening the batting, Sooryavanshi showed his fearless approach from the outset. He took on England pacer Jofra Archer, smashing two sixes to announce himself on the international stage.
His promising innings came to an end when he stepped out to attack leg-spinner Adil Rashid but failed to connect. Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith completed the stumping, dismissing the youngster for 14 runs off just 10 balls.

The dismissal made Sooryavanshi the first Indian batter to be stumped on his T20I debut. Despite the setback, his positive intent and attacking strokeplay caught the attention of fans and teammates alike.
Youngest Indian to play international cricket
The debut was still a landmark occasion for the teenage batter. At 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to represent India in international cricket, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.

Although his first international innings ended sooner than expected, Sooryavanshi displayed the fearless batting style that has made him one of India’s most exciting prospects. His aggressive intent against England’s bowling attack offered a glimpse of his potential at the highest level.
While the unwanted record will remain part of his debut, the bigger takeaway is the beginning of a promising international career. At just 15 years of age, Sooryavanshi has ample time to build on his talent and establish himself as a key player for India in the years to come.
