Mohun Bagan Super Giants have officially announced the appointment of Greek tactician Panagiotis Dilmperis as their new head coach on a one-year contract ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) season.
The 51-year-old ‘Panos’ takes charge after an impressive campaign with Punjab FC and arrives with the reputation of building competitive teams through disciplined, attacking football. Speaking for the reporters after signing his contract, Dilmperis outlined his footballing philosophy, expectations for the squad, his excitement for the Kolkata Derby, and his ambition to continue Mohun Bagan’s winning legacy.

Dilmperis earned widespread recognition during his stint with Punjab FC, where he transformed a relatively modest squad into one of the league’s most competitive teams. Explaining why he chose to accept the offer from the reigning ISL champions, the Greek coach said the club’s stature made the decision an easy one. “Mohun Bagan is much more than a football club; it is an institution with a remarkable history, a winning culture and one of the most passionate fanbases in Asia.”
“I believe we have a strong and talented squad with a good balance of experience and quality. Every coach always looks for ways to improve, but my focus is on maximising the potential of the players we have,” he added.
He stressed that winning trophies depends on far more than individual talent. “Success comes not only from individual talent but from creating a united team with the right mentality, discipline and commitment,” Panos said.

Taking charge of one of India’s biggest football clubs comes with enormous expectations, but Dilmperis insisted he welcomes the challenge rather than fearing it.
Quoting a famous saying, he explained that pressure is simply part of representing a club with Mohun Bagan’s stature. “There is a saying, ‘Pressure is a privilege.’ At big clubs, expectations are always high, and that is exactly how it should be.”

The coach acknowledged the unwavering support of the Green and Maroon faithful, describing the supporters as one of the club’s greatest strengths. “Our responsibility is to earn their trust every day through hard work, professionalism and performances that reflect the values of this great club.”
While refusing to guarantee victories every week, Dilmperis assured fans they would always see a side committed to giving everything on the pitch.

“The best way to prepare for such a match is not with emotions alone, but with excellent preparation, discipline and confidence. We will respect our opponents, but we will also play with courage and with the ambition expected from Mohun Bagan.”
Dilmperis also admitted that despite managing clubs with demanding supporters in the past, Mohun Bagan presents a unique challenge. “You can feel that this is more than football—it is identity, pride and tradition. That makes this challenge very special and I am excited to experience that atmosphere firsthand.”
