‘Let me stay away from such protests’
A fan has asked Diljit for his thoughts while the live interaction was on. The singer replied to the protest at Jantar Mantar in Punjabi and English saying, “What protest is this at Jantar Mantar? Bro, keep me away from these protests and all. I am an artist. I am not a politician.”
As quoted by Hindustan Times, he added that he was not aware of the details of the protest and said, “I don’t know what it is about, whoever is protesting mubarak to him. Whoever the protest is against, mubarak to him too”.
A contrast to his previous activism
Diljit’s recent comments come after his public backing of the farmers’ protest in 2020, during which he voiced farmers’ concerns and joined them in their protests. More recently, he had also pooh-poohed the idea of running for office, stating that his job is to entertain, and that he is content with his profession.
CJP Protest
The protest by the CJP has been going on at Jantar Mantar since June 20, according to Hindustan Times. Protesters have demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister in the context of alleged leak of NEET papers and have given hints that their protest will also include other issues of accountability and governance in the education sector.
In the meantime, Diljit is still pursuing his music career and some recent movie ventures, restating that he does not want to be involved with political debates.
