Vaibhav Sooryavanshi achieved a historic milestone on Saturday by becoming the youngest player to represent India in international cricket. The 15-year-old made his debut in the second T20I against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, breaking a record that had stood for nearly four decades.

Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record

Sooryavanshi was included in India’s playing XI in place of Sanju Samson after an impressive rise through domestic cricket, age-group tournaments and the IPL. Ahead of the match, the left-handed opener received his maiden India cap, marking the beginning of his international career.

Tendulkar had made his debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days in 1989, making Sooryavanshi the new record-holder.

Teenager shows fearless approach on debut

The youngster displayed confidence from the very start of his innings. Opening alongside Abhishek Sharma, Sooryavanshi played attacking cricket and struck two sixes during his knock of 14 runs off just 10 balls before being stumped.
