Morocco vs Canada World Cup 2026 clash highlighted the African side’s evolution under Mohamed Ouahbi, with a commanding 3-0 victory over Canada, securing a place in the quarter-finals. The North African side once again combined defensive resilience with clinical finishing as Azzedine Ounahi struck twice before Soufiane Rahimi wrapped up the contest deep into stoppage time. The result also created history, making Morocco the first African nation to reach the World Cup quarter-finals on two separate occasions. While Canada’s spirited journey came to an end, Morocco’s growing belief under new coach Mohamed Ouahbi continues to gather momentum.

Morocco vs Canada World Cup 2026 turns after Ounahi’s brilliance

The opening half belonged largely to Canada, who pressed aggressively and pinned Morocco inside their own half. Jesse Marsch’s side dominated possession in dangerous areas but struggled to find a breakthrough against an organised Moroccan defence led by goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

The game changed six minutes after the restart. Achraf Hakimi cleverly pulled back a free-kick to Azzedine Ounahi, who rifled a superb finish from outside the penalty area to hand Morocco the lead.

Canada attempted to respond but failed to regain the intensity they had shown before the interval. Morocco gradually took complete control of the contest.

Ouahbi’s attacking philosophy delivers another statement

Having replaced Walid Regragui earlier this year, Ouahbi has encouraged a more adventurous style while retaining the defensive discipline that made Morocco one of the world’s toughest tournament teams.

Ounahi doubled the African side’s advantage after a swift counterattack involving Chemsdine Talbi and Brahim Diaz. Rahimi then completed the scoring in stoppage time following another rapid transition orchestrated by Diaz.

Despite registering only one corner throughout the match, Morocco made every meaningful attack count with ruthless efficiency.

Canada’s dream ends as Morocco eyes bigger prize

The Morocco vs Canada World Cup 2026 result ended Canada’s memorable campaign despite another energetic performance. Jonathan David and Tani Oluwaseyi threatened throughout, but the African side’s defensive organisation proved too strong.

For Morocco, the victory reinforces their status as one of the tournament’s dark horses. The Atlas Lions have blended experience with youthful energy and now stand just one victory away from another World Cup semi-final appearance.

With confidence growing after another composed display, Morocco will head into the quarter-finals believing they can continue rewriting African football history.
