After days of scattered showers, South Bengal has finally received some relief from the heat. While rainfall has helped bring down temperatures across several districts, thunderstorms and lightning have continued to pose a serious threat, with multiple deaths reported in recent days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue across both South Bengal and North Bengal on Tuesday. The weather office has also issued an Orange Alert for several North Bengal districts due to the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The city woke up to cloudy skies on Tuesday, with little sunshine. The weather office has predicted that rainfall activity will increase through the week, offering relief from humid conditions.

On Tuesday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 29.0 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees above normal, while the maximum temperature reached 34.8 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degrees above normal.

South Bengal weather forecast

The South Bengal weather forecast indicates scattered rain and thunderstorms in several districts. Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia are likely to receive thunderstorms along with rainfall. The remaining districts are also expected to witness rain accompanied by lightning.

The IMD has said that the rainy spell is likely to continue across South Bengal throughout the week. With lightning activity expected to persist, the weather office has advised people not to remain in open spaces or seek shelter under trees during thunderstorms.

North Bengal weather update: Orange Alert for heavy rainfall

The North Bengal weather forecast suggests heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday. In view of the expected downpour, the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for parts of the region. The districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar are likely to receive the heaviest rainfall.

A Yellow Alert has also been issued for Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur, where heavy rain is likely.
