India’s Women’s T20 World Cup campaign may have ended before the final, but left-arm spinner Shree Charani emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest stars. The 21-year-old finished as the highest wicket-taker of the competition, delivering a string of match-winning performances and rewriting the record books for India.
Record-breaking campaign for Shree Charani
Charani claimed 14 wickets in five matches, the highest by any bowler in the tournament. She consistently troubled batters with her accuracy, flight and ability to extract turn, becoming India’s most reliable wicket-taking option during the middle overs. Her disciplined spells played a crucial role in keeping India competitive throughout the tournament.

Her ability to vary her pace, build pressure and strike in crucial moments made her one of the standout performers of the tournament. Even though India bowed out in the semi-finals, Charani finished ahead of several experienced international bowlers to secure the top wicket-taking honour.
Australia eventually defeated England in the final to claim a record seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title. However, Charani’s outstanding campaign gave India a major positive to take away from the tournament. Her performances have firmly established her as one of the country’s brightest young spin bowlers and a key player for India’s future ICC events.
