India’s fifth T20I against England at the Rose Bowl in Southampton got off to an unusual start after the toss was delayed due to a traffic-related issue rather than weather. While rain is often the reason for delays in England, this time it was the Indian team’s late arrival at the venue that forced officials to push back the pre-match schedule.
The toss, which was scheduled for 6:30 PM IST, could not take place on time after the Indian team bus was held up in heavy traffic on its way to the stadium. With the players yet to reach the ground, match officials delayed the toss until both teams were ready.
India vs England: Why did the toss get delay?
According to Cricinfo, severe traffic congestion around the Rose Bowl delayed India’s arrival at the venue. As a result, the team was unable to complete its pre-match preparations on schedule, forcing officials to postpone the toss.

Once the Indian squad reached the stadium, the revised schedule was put into effect and preparations resumed without further issues. The delay was purely logistical and was not related to rain or the condition of the playing surface.
Focus returns to series finale
The unexpected delay added an unusual twist to the fifth and final T20I of the series. England had already secured the series, while India entered the last match looking to end the tour on a winning note.

After the traffic issue was resolved, attention shifted back to the contest on the field. Both teams completed their preparations, and the match was expected to proceed normally. Although uncommon in international cricket, the incident highlighted how off-field factors such as transport and traffic can occasionally affect match schedules, even at major international venues.
