Egypt’s national football team found themselves at the centre of attention after a video showing a heated exchange between team officials and Dallas Police went viral during the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has since clarified that the incident was a brief misunderstanding and did not affect the team’s preparations for their Round of 32 match against Australia.
What happened outside the team hotel?
The incident took place outside Egypt’s team hotel in Dallas, where players had come out to greet supporters. According to the EFA, police officers were trying to manage the crowd when a child attempted to approach the players for a photograph.

Team director Ibrahim Hassan objected after seeing the youngster stopped by officers, prompting a brief verbal exchange. Videos circulating on social media showed police asking Egyptian staff to step back while Hassan protested the treatment of the fans.

The situation lasted only a few minutes before both sides calmed things down.
EFA dismisses speculation
As the footage spread online, speculation grew over a possible dispute involving the Egyptian camp. The EFA, however, insisted there was no major confrontation and described the episode as a minor misunderstanding.

The federation said Hassan’s intervention was intended to protect the child and ensure fans could meet the players safely. It added that the issue was resolved immediately through discussions with local authorities and had no impact on the team’s focus.

Dallas Police also confirmed that the matter was handled at the scene, with no arrests or injuries reported.
With the misunderstanding resolved, Egypt turned their attention back to the World Cup, where they faced Australia in the Round of 32. The team stressed that the incident had no bearing on its preparations and remained fully focused on progressing to the Round of 16.
